Here’s a quick and easy thing little kit you whip up in batches for stocking stuffers, hostess gifts and presents for neighbors who drop in with merry wishes!
There were three Action Stations at the My Favorite Things event. Not being one for “forced fun”, I like to have opportunities for guests to participate in activities with no obligation or expectations. Our first station was the Gift Wrap room I featured in yesterday’s post where guests had the opportunity to partake in creative wrapping of the donated gifts they brought to the party. The second station invited guests to create these fun SMORE’S WITH A TWIST kits.
Turning the expected into the UNexpected is definitely one of My Favorite Things. Here, we took chocolate marshmallows, light chocolate biscuits and white chocolate cookies and creme candy bars and placed them in tall cellophane bags for a little fireside treat! Give them away or keep them in your pantry for a fun family night.
A Favorite Things Decor Idea that took center stage at the My Favorite Things event was WREATH CENTERPIECES. A surefire way to add some pizzaz to your holiday table is to take the wreath off the wall and use it as a centerpiece! We offered three unique options using the same straw wreath base and various items found in nature or from Dollar and craft stores and no hot glue required!
WREATH #1: SASSY
Wrap a straw wreath base with 3 pine green feather boas and attach with floral pins. Add silver accents (we used glittery curly willow and a few sprigs of silver pine branches. Tuck in a few hot pink and black items (would you believe mine are a large button I picked up at Mood – of Project Runway fame – on my last trip to NYC, my daughter’s box of Table Talkers from American Girl Place and a big pink floppy flower pin?!). Shop in your own house to see what you’ve got! Place a tall cylinder vase in the center, fill halfway with iridescent glitter or beads and top with a candle.
WREATH #2: ROMANTIC
Wrap your wreath base with fabric remnants. Place a covered cake plate in the center. Pour artificial snow (available at toy stores) or Epsom salts in the base and tuck a few red roses in the snow. Top with a sparkly brooch. For extra sparkle, I used a glue dot on the inside top of the cover to attach a pretty glass ornament before placing the cover on the base.
WREATH #3: NATURAL
Pin several sheets of moss to your wreath base. Find a branch in your backyard and place it, with some dirt to secure it, into a cup or small container (we actually used a plastic Solo cup!). Place the branch in the bottom of a footed vase and cover and surround with rocks. Top with artificial snow or Epsom salts. I found these adorable red birds at The Dollar Tree (set of 3). Decorate your tree with a few birds and just a couple snowflake and icicle ornaments (also from The Dollar Tree). We perched another bird and a few silver pine sprigs on the wreath too.
**There are still 3 more days of My Favorite Things plus a few more Favorite Ideas for entertaining, so be sure to give yourself a little break from the hustle and bustle of the season and stop by to see whats going on here at Mix Mingle Glow!
