My Favorite Things in Ten Days PLUS a GIVEAWAY!
Just coming off of my annual Christmas Holiday Party planning buzz. This year’s theme was My Favorite Things and what a fun time we had planning it! Guests received my first Favorite Thing as part of their invitation (more on that in a minute). The event featured nine other Favorite Things from the practical to the delicious, as well as Favorite Food, Beverage, Decor, Favor and Entertaining ideas.
Readers of this blog know how important the invitation to any event is to me. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, just eye-catching, novel, fun,or different but most importantly, memorable! The invitations to the My Favorite Things event was Target’s wallet sized, foldable REUSABLE SHOPPING BAG. I love reusable bags (“Ecofriendly, meet Chic.” “How do you do?”) but I have a bad habit of forgetting to bring them into the store until I’m at the checkout counter! BLERG! Well, blerg no more my friends! Target offers this adorable bag that folds up to the size of a wallet so you can keep it in your purse! LOVE IT! The design is super cute and not overtly commercialized.
P.S. It costs a dollar.
Yep.
So we tucked these happy little totes into envelopes with the invitations:

We “adopted” several children from a domestic violence situation for the party and divided them up amongst the guests and then asked everyone to bring their bag to the party filled with a gift for their assigned child. You should have SEEN all the gifts (more on that later this week!). One of My Favorite Things Ideas is ENTERTAINING THAT GIVES BACK.
NOW ONTO THE GOOD STUFF —-> Would you like to win a bag filled with all ten of My Favorite Things? You would??? Perfect, because I saved one for ONE *LUCKY* READER. Leave a comment telling me one of YOUR favorite things, and I’ll randomly draw a winner on Saturday, December 18 at midnight. The gift will be shipped the next morning. GOOD LUCK AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
Stay tuned for the next nine Favorite Things!

I love the idea of this party and these bag invites are Fabulous! I can’t wait to see the rest!
My favorite thing is a gift certificate to Marshalls or TJMaxx! Everyone who knows me, knows I am obsessed with finding the hidden (and not so hidden) treasures in these stores…whether it’s home decor or fashion!!

December 14th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
One of my favorite things is my Amazing Grace perfume. Yes it is a bit pricey, but it smells absolutely WONDERFUL –a touch of sweet and a touch of clean…and the packaging is divine!
December 14th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I love your idea of using the bags with the invitations, so creative! My favorite thing is stylish office supplies. Nothing better to get my creative juices flowing!

First, I love the idea of adding a re-usable bag! Your ideas are always inspiring. A few of my favorite things are Burts Bee’s lip balm, OPI nail polish, & Method cleaning products. I can’t wait to see your list!

One of my favorite things at this time of year is candles that fill the house with the scent of freshly cut christmas trees. Yes, my tree is fake (beautiful as it is) but I do miss the scent that fills the house when it is fresh. My current fave candle is by Yankee Candle and it is the Balsm and Cedar scent. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Not too strong, but just enough to make you feel warm and fuzzy with the smell that you get upon entering the house.
BTW, so sad I couldn’t come to your party. Next year, I’m there. No matter what.

What a fabulous idea! Love it, my favorite thing is KFC chocolate cake!
December 14th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Hi Robyn! What a great idea
One of my favorite things to do during this time of year is to serve a meal in a local shelter with my family. It helps show the kids how fortunate they are while at the same time, giving something back to the community
December 14th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
I love it!!!
one of my favorite things is sitting in the dark staring at the christmas tree!!!!!!
December 14th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
I love this!! Especially with it being the holidays! My favorite things include anything Christmas related. It’s such a wonderful time of year with people (who aren’t stuck in the mall crowds and traffic) opening up their hearts to those who are less fortunate. I love the giving trees at the malls, work and churchs. I love the glow of the Christmas lights, lighting up neighborhoods. I love that families reunite during the holidays. And I love more than anything on a crowded, miserable day at the mall, having someone smile at you. It really can turn someone’s day around.
December 14th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Hmm, many favorite things come to mind. I would say going to Christmas Eve service at church, lighting the candles and singing Joy to the World.
December 14th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
I am got shopping bags for gift bags this year for christmas gifts. Never thought about for invites how fun I would love getting that invite. I would be very excited for that party. Love the ideas. My fav for Christmas is spending all the time with my family!
December 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
I Love, Love, Love the “Singing for your supper” twist to a party. People really do like to give, but just need a little push most times. I am definitely doing this at my next party! Now, my newest favorite thing is my coach swing purse. It fits perfectly across my chest and makes it easy to shop with my hands free!
December 15th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Love those target bags! My favorite thing right now is fresh baked gingerbread cookies!
December 15th, 2009 at 4:53 am
Inspiring is an understatement. I’m new to the world of Robyn and am loving every minute of if. I feel blessed to have met you Robyn and thank you so much for including me in your memorable occasions you create!!! I wish my mother were still alive….we used to have a phrase that we used after every party where we (my mother and sisters) would all 3 way call eachother to “Do Afterglow” of the party. How appropriate! Love you bunches….

My favorite thing right now is my juicer! Since I’m pregnant again, I’m trying not to drink much caffiene so I’ve been juicing!! We buy satsumas by the case from a friend and then I add in other fruits and veggies!! All the natural vitamins give me a pump of energy in the mornings so I can keep up with my 8 month old!!! My other favorite thing lately is reading this blog!! I’ve really looked forward to seeing which favorite thing you will list next!! I can’t wait to put some of these ideas to good use!! Each of these posts of yours have made me smile… so interesting, and great photos!
My favourite thing is coffee in a paper cup. I don’t drink one every day, I have a travel mug, I make it at home, etc… but sometimes I really just need to treat myself to one in a paper cup. Especially the Christmas-themed cups the coffee shops come out with.
December 18th, 2009 at 9:04 am
Robyn, what a fabulous party theme!!!! I have many high end favorite things so we won’t name them (LOL!!!) but besides people, I am going to have to say my library of party planning books. I think that to be a successful event planner you have to always be willing to learn and look at ideas from your fellow vendor friends. Happy Holidays!!
December 18th, 2009 at 9:15 am
What a great idea – those are some amazing invitations!
I suppose one of my favorite things is books. So much so that I do not understand how people manage to have space on their shelves for displaying things – say china or beautiful collections of snowglobes or whatever – other than books. To the dismay of my great-great grandmother’s china, unfortunately.
December 18th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
One of my favorite things is my CrackBerry. Couldn’t imagine life without it!
December 19th, 2009 at 6:47 am
Another one of my favorite things is Aveda Phmollient–it is a mouse/foam and I just love it. Tried to do without it (due to $$) for several months and broke down and went and got some the other day. Actually bought 2 bottles!
December 19th, 2009 at 7:59 am
One of my favorite things is your blog! I’m not sure how I could bring your blog to a party but maybe if I’m invited to your Favorite Things next year (over-obvious hint), I will find a way. You do great work.
December 19th, 2009 at 8:06 am
What a fun series of posts, and what a fun party that must have been! Two of my current favorites this season are the children’s book “Bear Snores On,” which I read with my son, and peppermint mocha coffee creamer. It’s a great alternative to expensive Starbucks!

I love all your favorite things too, but really loved your gift wrapping party to give back. Very inspiring!
One of my favorite things for gift wrapping is craft glue runners (the ones with one swipe and you can add glue to anything?), makes it easy peasy to attach cards, bows, hold ribbon in place, gift tags with one little swipe
